This is a very step-by-step process in how to make your very own coconut-cream coffee bombs. It has saved me time, and a little sanity. Hope you enjoy!
I am eliminating lots from my diet, to be healthy, to feel better, but one thing that continues is my coffee. I love my coffee. I love it in the morning and it’s the best when you pull up to your desk to start your day. Ive actually limited myself to just one cup a day, most days. If I want something for a late day pick me up- Ill do a hot tea, but thats another story. But, first, the coffee story…..
I’ve been searching for a healthier, creamier, way to fix my coffee since I continue to go back to my favorite dairy- half-n-half. Why? Because I love how coffee tastes with good ol half n half. You may wonder why I just don’t stick to that? Well, over the course of the past year or so- when I stop dairy I am less tired, sluggish, and my joints don’t hurt as much in the morning when waking. I want to feel ready to hit the ground in the morning and taking dairy out has helped me. (I won’t mention the milkshake I had on mothers day from Hat Creek Burger Co. OMG . So, I sometimes still indulge in dairy. Cough cough, queso. Yeah, I can’t mention my queso addiction. But, at least that is only with my girlfriends on girls night. Queso seems to always be involved). Back to coffee—
I even researched the effects of dairy and inflammation and my thoughts were supported, for myself. Remember, every person and system are different. What I do, might not be what you should do. You have to try things, eliminate things and see if you notice any changes. And if you aren’t having any ill symptoms then don’t change what aint broke.
I’ve tried several non-dairy creamers, and I’ll share my two favorite ones at the end Ive tried with my coffee bombs. I actually loved combining a coffee bomb with a little non-dairy almond/coconut milk and it was even better!)
How I got Started With the Coffee Bomb Idea…
I started off by experimenting with some ingredients- coconut cream, coconut butter (a product that tastes exactly as it’s named-like a sweet coconut flavored butter), some maple syrup, and cinnamon. I loved the coffee I was creating but it was taking forever to get all four ingredients out and put in my coffee. Aint nobody got time for that!
So I thought- If I could only make a coffee bomb. And I tried it, and it worked, and Im loving it. I want to preface that- you may have to definitely do trial and error of what you want in yours. If you are doing the Ketogenic diet, you can actually put real butter in yours. Yes. real butter. But, that is not in mine. Coconut butter is though! I’ll try to post the back of the jar to see if you think I may be using an unhealthy item, but right now Im enjoying living in ignorant bliss if coconut butter is bad for me. It has no cholesterol so that has to be good! Plus., I really watched how much I put in the coffee bomb mix. And I can assure you that when I had all four ingredients out on the counter- I was putting way more of everything than when it ends up as a coffee bomb. The bomb=portion control. So, good job to me!
I started with coconut cream, maple syrup, cinnamon and coconut butter. See images below. I also took a picture of coconut milk from the can because Im going to try using that next time.
This is coconut cream. Stay with me. lol. It is not cute. But, it helps create that creamier coffee feeling. You see that thick stuff? That is the cream. It looks like pudding. There is also a liquid substance and that is the oil- I used this whole can in my coffee bomb mix.
This is what it looks like at Sprouts- buy these. I am going to try the coconut milk (some of it) in my next batch. I present Sprouts Coconut Cream and Coconut Milk—
This is coconut butter.Artisana Coconut butter. I put about two tablespoons in my mix.
Maple syrup= I think I used about 1/4 up, I didn’t measure but that is what I remembered pouring. Each bomb isn’t too sweet so I think Ill stick with 1/4 cup
Cinnamon- You can tell I love my cinnamon. This I ordered from one of my favorite healthy online markets called Thrive. I didn’t measure but put as much as you want.
Put it all in a food processor or Blender would work. Cinnamon should have been measured as you can tell. But, they actually turned out perfect so it shows you can never over-do cinnamon.
It looks like ice cream here. Let’s just pretend it’s ice cream- it kind of resembles that.
Blend it as long or little as you like.
It may look weird if you blended it for too long, because it is hard for some of these to actually blend together. It has worked fine, so no worries. Yours is fine if it looks like this.
You will need some ice cube trays or baby food making trays to freeze your coffee bombs. Thank goodness for homemade baby food making with Coen’s food- I still have this handy-dandy green one around and it is flexible and helps pop those frozen suckers out.
Carefully pour your mixture into the trays. you can see I wasn’t neat or perfect about it. Nobody is watching so it doesn’t matter. It only made 14 bombs as you see- enough for two weeks. But, that still saves you time from putting a bazillion things in your coffee everyday to try to achieve the feel of good coffee. This has been faster, and I feel important with my coffee bomb. Im extra. Coffee bombs are the new thing (especially with these Keto- dieters).
Scrape every last ingredient and get it in those cubes. Its worth it because you worked so hard. You can believe some of this at the bottom went into my coffee that day. I don’t waste any of that. Ingredients & Sprouts is expensive so I use it all.
Wrap it with plastic wrap and put it in the freezer to freeze. I keep them frozen until the morning of. After they are frozen, you will want to pop them out of the cubes and keep in a ziplock bag in the freezer ready for use.
A frozen coffee bomb. Looks kind of like a snowy castle from the side.
Now its ready to go in your lovely coffee. Remember, I said you could also supplement with a splash of almond, coconut milk, or another of your favorite that is healthy I hope! Im even ready for The Royal Wedding with my coffee cup straight from England. Thank you Sarah for this souvenir! It’s making the blog post.
Here is the coffee pre-bombed. Pure black coffee. I just can’t drink mine like this, yet, or EVER. So. you keep doing you and Ill keep doing my laborous way lol.. It is worth all this effort.
And now, with the coffee bomb. And Ive never used more than one. It’s frozen, so it has to melt.
And Im going to tell you how I use it when going out for coffee with my family or husband. We love to go get Einsteins coffee. But, it was depressing since I couldn’t use their half n half. We use the refill cups at Einsteins always and before heading out, I put a little coffee bomb and a splash of almond milk and I was ready to drink coffee at Einsteins with my husband. It just takes some creative thinking when making changes! This is exactly how I drank coffee on Mothers day at The Swirl Bakery. I bought my own coffee cup, coffee bomb, and bought their coffee. You have to do what takes care of you to help you keep enjoying the traditions of your family. Just adjust. Don’t stop something if you can find a way to make it more healthy.
A coffee bomb when melted. You are welcome!
I am just thankful I have found something that helps my morning coffee and I can enjoy it again. But let me say it again- my favorite so far has been this combination:
-1 coffee bomb + some non dairy creamer
….and this one below was my favorite so far….This So Delicious brand was what I used this morning with a bomb and I loved it. I really like the second one here as well. Both- from Sprouts.
Ill report back if I gain 5 pounds in a month, but so far, so good.
Coffee is a blessing. Don’t ever let anyone tell you any different!
Look for my next blog post when I share different non-dairy products and my opinions of each, and my favorites!
